• How do we judge a link?

  	Check out the links by clicking on the title (it will open the link in a new window).
  	Now that you have seen the link it is time to decide what you think of it. Judge a link by clicking one of the five choices.
  	After you judge a link, the overall opinion image will be changed automatically to include what you think.

  That's all there is to it!!




• Why should we judge links?

  There are a LOT of web pages in the world today. There is a huge variety of links to these web pages. How do you normally find out what stuff you like and what stuff you just don't care about? Just like in real (offline) life, we often look at the stuff our friends tell us about. Once we see it, we decide if we like it ourselves or not. The links come from others and we also tell others about links we like. LinkJudge works the same way except we have friends from all over the world telling us about links and we get to tell people from all over about our favorites. LinkJudge is here to help the community sort through the good and the bad. The links in the 'Popular Links' area depend on people like you and me deciding what we think of a link and judging it. Every judge counts! A judge that says they don't care much about a link is just as important as one that REALLY likes the link. As a community, our decisions add up and let the good rise to the top for everyone to discover and enjoy.





• What are the different options for judging a link?

  You have five different choices when judging a link. They are:

  	What is this??	Totally hate it. Pure garbage.
  	This is pretty lame	Don't like the link. Of no interest at all.
  	Meh. It's OK.	I don't like it but I don't hate it either
  	Pretty cool.	I like it.
  	WOW!	This is great! I want to tell friends about this one!





• What happens when a link is submitted to LinkJudge?

  There are certain "paths" a new link can take on LinkJudge. These paths serve as a filter for the links submitted. Why filter links submitted by the LinkJudge community? So that the boring and spammy links go away and leave us with stuff that we actually want to see... This is all part of the community controlling what stays and what goes to the trash. A new link has a specific amount of time it can spend waiting in the 'New Links' area.

  
  
  
  When a new link has been judged by enough people who like it the link will be moved automatically to the 'Popular Links' area. Links in the 'Popular Links' area are the saved for people to enjoy for years to come. Want tO increase the chances of a link you submit making it to the 'Popular Links' area? Make sure to submit stuff that people want to see and also make sure to write a good summary of why it is worth checking out.
  
  
  When a new link gets a bunch of bad reviews from judges it will eventually end up in the trash (where it belongs). The LinkJudge community helps to clean out the bad and boring stuff by judging links.
  
  
  A new link will also be moved down the line and eventually trashed if it is not seen or ignored by enough judges. This is why it is important for a person submitting a link to include a good summary of why the link is worth checking out.
  
  
  Finally, links in both 'New Links' and 'Popular Links' will also be automatically hidden or trashed if there are a lot of reports on the specific link. This usually happens to the stuff that is spam and/or not appropriate for the LinkJudge community.
  
  

  With this system you know that those links in 'Popular Links' area of the LinkJudge have already been "checked" by others and can easily tell if they are worth your time to check out for yourself. Remember though! Just because others don't like the link doesn't mean you won't like it either! Half the fun of checking out new links is deciding for yourself!





• How do these links even get on here?

  
  Quick answer? YOU! (and the rest of the LinkJudge community).
  

  LinkJudge is all about sharing. Users like you submit new links that they think are worth checking out. Let's be honest here... Some links will stink... Others will be OK... Many more will rock! Together we create a great place to share and show off your favorite links and look around to discover new ones!




• What kinds of things can we link to?

  Anything! Well... Almost anything. What kinds of links do you usually pass along to friends? LinkJudge is all about whatever interests you! Find an interesting news story? Share it! A funny web comic? Share it! Cool pictures? Hilarious videos? New blog? Fun new website worth checking out? Share all of it! The only thing we won't tolerate is inappropriate links and spam... I think most people know what qualifies as both of those things. The good thing about LinkJudge is that our judging of links also helps to get rid of the garbage troublemakers may post. In the end, the good stuff will rise and the bad stuff ends up in the trash!





• Are we REALLY in control here?

  Yes! The LinkJudge community ends up being responsible for everything... The links are submitted by people like you and me. The links are then judged by you, me and everyone else. The stuff we like stays on the site... The stuff we don't like ends up buried or (eventually) in the trash. Problems? Judging and reporting links also controls what stays on the site. There are some administrative types here who will move some things along if they get stuck or fix things if they get broken... They are here to help but in no way control what happens. LinkJudge is whatever we make it! It is for us... And made by us!

About LinkJudge

LinkJudge, is a web application that allows you to submit a link that will be reviewed by all and will be promoted, based on popularity, to the main page. When a user submits a new link it will be placed in the "New" area until it gains sufficient votes to be promoted to the "Popular" area. LinkJudge is based on the popular open source project Pligg (which is itself influenced by the extremely popular English technology site Digg).

1. Description of Service. LinkJudge (the "Service") is a free, online application. You understand and agree that the Service is provided on an AS IS and AS AVAILABLE basis. LinkJudge disclaims all responsibility and liability for the availability, timeliness, security or reliability of the Service. LinkJudge also reserves the right to modify, suspend or discontinue the Service with or without notice at any time and without any liability to you.
   
   
2. Personal Use. The Service is made available to you for your personal use only. Due to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (which is available at http://www.ftc.gov/ogc/coppa1.htm), you must be at least thirteen (13) years of age to use this Service. You must provide current, accurate identification, contact, and other information that may be required as part of the registration process and/or continued use of the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your Service password and account, and are responsible for all activities that occur thereunder. LinkJudge reserves the right to refuse service to anyone at any time without notice for any reason.
   
   
3. Proper Use. You agree that you are responsible for your own communications and for any consequences thereof. Your use of the Service is subject to your acceptance of and compliance with the Agreement. You agree that you will use the Service in compliance with all applicable local, state, national, and international laws, rules and regulations, including any laws regarding the transmission of technical data exported from your country of residence. You shall not, shall not agree to, and shall not authorize or encourage any third party to: (i) use the Service to upload, transmit or otherwise distribute any content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, abusive, fraudulent, obscene, contains viruses, or is otherwise objectionable as reasonably determined by LinkJudge; (ii) upload, transmit or otherwise distribute content that infringes upon another party's intellectual property rights or other proprietary, contractual or fiduciary rights or obligations; (iii) prevent others from using the Service; (iv) use the Service for any fraudulent or inappropriate purpose; or (v) act in any way that violates the Program Policies, as may be revised from time to time. 4. Your Intellectual Property Rights LinkJudge does not claim any ownership in any of the content, including any text, data, information, images, photographs, music, sound, video, or other material, that you upload, transmit or store in your LinkJudge account. We will not use any of your content for any purpose except to provide you with the Service.
   
   
5. Representations and Warranties. You represent and warrant that (a) all of the information provided by you to LinkJudge to participate in the Services is correct and current; and (b) you have all necessary right, power and authority to enter into this Agreement and to perform the acts required of you hereunder.
   
   
6. Privacy. As a condition to using the Service, you agree to the terms of the LinkJudge Privacy Policy as it may be updated from time to time. LinkJudge understands that privacy is important to you. You do, however, agree that LinkJudge may monitor, edit or disclose your personal information, including the content of your emails, if required to do so in order to comply with any valid legal process or governmental request (such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order), or as otherwise provided in these Terms of Use and the LinkJudge Privacy Policy. Personal information collected by LinkJudge may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which LinkJudge or its agents maintain facilities. 7. Indemnification. You agree to hold harmless and indemnify LinkJudge, and its subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, agents, and employees from and against any third party claim arising from or in any way related to your use of the Service, including any liability or expense arising from all claims, losses, damages (actual and consequential), suits, judgments, litigation costs and attorneys' fees, of every kind and nature.
